Becoming a Knight essays Knights lead very difficult and burdensome lifes, but becoming a knight was a greater honor than being a knight. Knights began thier training at the age of seven when they were sent off to a local castle to become pages. These pages spent seven years training thier bodies for the trials yet to come. They were taught how to properly use weapons by the lord of that castle and how to dance and sing by the lady of the castle. At the age of fourteen the page was promoted to a squire, they became well versed in all aspects of combat and helped the knight on a daily basis. At the age of eighteen on through twenty one the squire was knighted at a local church by the priest of that church or his own lord thus completing the process of becoming a knight. Knights were also made when normal soldiers preformed great feats of valor on the field of combat. They were also made before battles to give men a boost in moral for the coming melee. Becoming a knight was a process of honor and presteige for the nobles and only the most bravest of men. The first step in the knightly process was the page. The page was a boy of some seven or eight years of age. The young child was most likely the son of a noble or aristcracy of the time or he was of a person of great importance. Jeffery Singman, an expert on the medeival time period says that the pages were trained to develop thier muscles by practiceing with a wooden dummy that when struck properly would rotate and strick the page if he did not move out of the way quick enough. Pages were also used to run errands and do humble tasks for the lord and lady of the house. Singman also says in his book that they were taught reading, writing, math, manners, singing, and riding horses. The fact that Durand focused more on recording the factual details of the trade operations and prices and on counting the profits supports the idea that the aspects of morality were widely violated in the French society. It is possible to condemn Durand for his actions because his activities are significantly associ ated with a lot of moral aspects, and Durand could reject the development of the slave trade as any other person in the French society. Nevertheless, many people chose to ignore the issue of the slave trade, and they discussed it only from the perspective of its profitability rather than morality. Slave traders chose their path consciously because the business was risky and problematic. That is why, Durand made his choice without thinking about the moral implications of his actions. In spite of the fact that Durand was one of many people who did not focus on the slave trade as the social problem, this fact cannot be referred to while discussing the problem of condemning Durand’s actions. The slave trade was the business characterized by a lot of problems and contradictions associated with the concepts of the slaves’ freedom and use of their work in France. When Biff sees the Women, he discovers that his father is a fake and was doing something completely wrong. He also sees that Willy had given his mothers stockings to the woman. Biff never went to summer school after that incident because he was completely shocked and let down by his father. He wasn’t in the position anymore to take summer school classes as the situation left him into a state of depression. He couldn’t believe his father because he never thought that he would actually turn on his mother and do this to her and their family. This left Biff in a state of confusion and shock where he wasn’t able to forgive his father. Q9. Why does Linda tell the boys, â€Å"Get out of here, both of you, and don’t come back!†? Ans: Linda yells at the boys because she is disappointed and furious with them. When she found out that they had left Willy all by himself at the restaurant, she was very angry and didn’t want to see or speak to either of them. She was also disappointed because she just started to think that things in their family were going to go back to normal and everyone was going to be happy, and after the incident, she was disappointed that there were still more issues to take care of. She feels that the boys don’t respect their father, and care more about the women they went off with. She also feels like her sons are just tormenting Willy and using him for financial backup, shelter, etc. but are not giving him the support, love and respect he needs and deserves. Q10. She is that unimportant and uninteresting compared to the rest of the characters in the novella.
